“My work,” Min comments, “often seems calm, but there is always the some disturbing point. Somehow the work is ironic; despite the soft colors and tranquil ambience, there is always something that breaks the harmony.” By troubling the waters – that is, by destroying the psychic unity of her paintings – Min makes use of the traditional in order to underscore the contemporary.

“Duality” is one of the pieces designed for “Augmented Structures Exhibition” held in Yapı Kredi Culture Center on Istiklal Street. The piece is basically a semi-transparent surface creating duality for both sides; Istiklal Street and the Gallery. While the structure adopts the spatial properties of the space it also interacts with people passing by Istiklal Street. There is a kinect motion sensor that locates people outside and it reacts by producing real time Processing images after them.
Parametric projection curtain design : Melis Eyüboğlu
Software and sensor implementation: Ceyhun Derinbogaz
Software concept : Refik Anadol

Artist name: Melis Eyuboglu & Tuberk Altuntas

Project/work name: Bonescraper

Artist location: Turkey

Describe your project:

In this plot boundary, the bonescraper locates itself being respectful to the surrounding environment.

Therefore some restrains are applied to this boundary. This restrains will allow the building to escape from the enormous shadows of the neighbor buildings and let the light pass through itself to the buildings around. The porous structure also provides strength to the structure.
The bonelike structure starts to secrete from 3 sources according to these rules. The rules are coded to the DNA of the structure. It passes through phases till it fills the entire boundary. This phasing system provides the owner of the building to be built in as many phases as they like. This secreting follows the liquid behavior.
The cores are spread through the whole building. It also holds the installations and elements like stairs. The puffed parts of the structure holds recreation spaces. Entrance lobby, social areas, restaurants and sport facilities. The main circulation through the building is maintained through 3D elevators. These elevators are like parasites and move around the façade with their arms. They pick and leave people from/to the holes on the façade.
On this bonelike structure, the housing units nest. They connect to the available slots of the structure. These units have different volume but they all have panoramic views of the city.

What or who influenced this project?: Liquid and gaseous behavior, marine habitat, mutations.

BONESCRAPER

The site is in the central business district of Istanbul. Around 70’s; warehouses, factories were on these plots. However as the city started to expand, the factories moved to the city boundaries and the plots started to host skyscrapers. The plots are connected with the main boulevard. On the side of the plots; 2-6 story height apartments exist. The empty plot that we choose is 22m x 215m. The surrounding skyscrapers go up to 261m height.
